Making a Difference in our Local Communities
Each year, thousands of our employees volunteer in the communities in which we live and work. They volunteer because it makes a difference. They become champions of causes and take on the responsibility of enriching the well-being of their local communities. They develop new skills, expand their expertise and take pride in representing Celestica in their community.
Through our Time Off to Volunteer program, employees are encouraged to volunteer with other Celestica colleagues, fulfilling meaningful initiatives in a variety of organizations. Our employees' spirit of volunteering comes to life in so many ways - going to local food banks to prepare meals for underprivileged community members, visiting schools to help kids learn to read, going to a hospital to revitalize their outdoor space, and joining local efforts to plant trees.
Some recent examples include:
In Thailand, our employees went to Samae San Island to clean the beach and transplant coral reefs into the sea in an effort to restore and repair damaged coral populations. They also created temporary housing for the coral reef out of spare PVC material.
In Malaysia, our employees volunteered their time to clear debris, cook meals and clean houses for members of their community that were impacted by flash flooding following heavy rain.
In Canada, our employees organized Celestica’s 21st annual United Way Campaign in support of the United Way of Greater Toronto and York Region. Together, they participated in events such as the CN Tower Stair Climb, Days of Caring and planned fundraising events with their colleagues. All of the proceeds are donated to the United Way to support local community organizations and tackle poverty. As a result of their efforts, the team received a United Way Spirit Award for best Employee Campaign in the Technology sector.
Building a strong, sustainable and engaged workforce is the foundation of our success and is one of the factors that makes Celestica a great place to work.
